Of the three known giraffe species, one is nearly extinct, one is critically endangered, and the third is severely depleted....

Giraffes are the tallest mammals in the world, known for their long necks, long legs and distinctive patchy fur. Each giraffe has a unique pattern that works like a fingerprint. They live in the savannahs and open forests of Africa and feed mainly on leaves, preferably from acacia trees. Their long necks allow them to reach leaves and branches that are inaccessible to other animals. Giraffes are also known for their calm and elegant nature, but move surprisingly fast and can defend themselves effectively against predators. Despite their imposing appearance, they are under threat due to habitat loss and poaching. The protection of these majestic animals is essential for the preservation of biodiversity.
